Swim Meet 101
Read on for everything you need to know about swim meets!
Swim meets start at 5:30 pm on Thursday evenings in June, but swimmers will need to be on deck early (4:00 pm) so they can warm up and be marked up for their races.
Running a swim meet is a lot of work! To help make our meets run as smoothly as possible, each family must provide one adult volunteer per swim meet. For each meet, you can sign up for a volunteer job on this website. Volunteer jobs run for either the first half or second half of the swim meet. There are some volunteer opportunities that happen before the event. We know you want to see your kids swim - don't worry - you WILL get to watch your swimmer's events!
IMPORTANT: Be sure to check in at the volunteer table when you arrive at the swim meet.
To the parents of younger swimmers, we need your help! Please consider signing up to be a bullpen parent - your swimmer and their friends need your help to ensure that they arrive on time for their events. We ask that the same parents serve as bullpen parents throughout the season - this helps our swimmers know who to go to during the meets for help.
Concessions are sold at the meets, but, at home meets, you are welcome to bring your own food and snacks. Just remember no glass on the pool deck! For away meets, we will let you know ahead of time if our hosts allow outside food and drinks.
Great snacks for your swimmers include fruit, raw veggies, cooked pasta and protein.
Swimmers should bring the following items to each meet:
- Swim team t-shirt
- Two towels (one to sit on and one to dry off)
- Something warm and dry to wear between events and after the meet
- Snacks & water bottle
- Sunscreen
- Cards, games or small toys for entertainment between events
Swim meets do often end quite late - try to prepare your swimmers (and yourselves!) for a late, but super fun evening!
